One definition of service is contributing to the welfare of others. When I think about the life of Jesus, service was the bedrock of his ministry. There are many ways to be of service: our armed services protect our freedom; doctors and hospitals serve to keep us healthy; the fast food business keeps us moving when there’s no time to stop; police and emergency workers are there ready to help when the unexpected happens; and hospice workers help to transition us from life to the afterlife.

Artists are in the service business, as well. Imagine life without art, movies, dance, plays, books or music. Art can educate, entertain and inspire us.

When I started playing the guitar, it was all about me and the guitar. I spent thousands of hours alone, and then with my band mates, learning the songs of our rock and roll heroes. I loved it then, and still do. Then, I realized I was in the service business, and I had important work to do.

Party On The Moon® was created to be the best party band in the world. Ed Duncan and I were going to accomplish that goal by giving the best service and product in the world. We enlisted the best talent, sales force, marketing company, video team and production in the country. We were one of the first bands to perform a non-stop 3-hour show. Party On The Moon® was the first band added to the National Party Bands™ roster. Check out all our bands at

Today, National Party Bands™ is regarded as having the best bands in the country. All the bands that comprise National Party Bands™ have the same dedication to service. We realize when we’re performing for the President, Donald Trump or Mrs. Jones’ daughter’s wedding, that we are there to serve the audience. One question I always ask myself is, “How can I best be of service?” That question has made all the difference.

In my Taido Karate class last week, my Sensei told the class, “Some of you may go to collage at Yale or Harvard. You may decide to become a carpenter or a teacher. It doesn’t matter, as long as your goal is to contribute to society.”

Here’s to service.
